The pandemic has seen more women launching businesses than ever before

The Times reported in February that a record proportion of start-ups were being founded by women, according to the latest figures from the government-commissioned 2022 Rose Review. It found that more than 140,000 companies were established by all-women teams in 2021, and that the figure is growing by a third each year. The report found particularly strong growth in female-led start-ups among those aged 16 to 25.

Within the small business community, we’ve noticed huge numbers of people making the jump into self-employment. The number of customers ordering our business signage increased massively during the pandemic, and 98% of these customers were female.

It was fantastic to see women in business thriving during lockdown, it’s really inspiring to see so many female entrepreneurs starting their own businesses and smashing it! The pandemic really prompted many women to rethink their situations, re-evaluate life choices and seek more flexibility in their work - especially those of us with children.
